There is probably nothing that is more anxiety inducing than the idea of having to adjust to the dreaded unexpected and inevitable “change”. I have many clients that present with situational anxiety related to some sort of change, potential change. or perceived change of circumstances in their lives. Some of the most common situations are related to work or relationships in some capacity or another. I am currently in a especially emphasized phase of change in my career that created the perfect “change induced anxiety storm”. Not since the college years have I experienced such prominent symptoms of anxiety. Knowing what I know and choosing to be attentive, I knew that my best best to embrace it and see where it takes me. Fighting the process would not be beneficial at all, the anxiety would persist and ultimately produce adversity in my judgement and decision making. Change is all around, sometimes it is disguised in subtlety and therefore easier to digest. Other times it comes through making its presence known with nothing short of enthusiastic vigor. Whether great or small, take the initiative to face the challenge of change with the security of awareness. Self-evaluate, what are your thoughts and feelings, apprehensions, methods to cope, opportunities for flexibility, and/or possible plans of action? Talk it out and find resources that will help you attend to your specific areas of needs as it relates to the inevitable…change.
