Black History Month is one of the most significant times of the year to highlight African-American men and women and their contributions to the world around us. I shall not let this time pass without shouting out some of the men and women of color that have helped curtail stigma surrounding mental health care in the African-American community. Terrie M. Williams’ “Black Pain: It Just Looks Like We’re Not Hurting” is beautiful and honest story about dealing with depression as a woman of color. Her words expose a vulnerability that is all too real within the African-American community, wounds that are very slowly healing. Anyone who may be dealing with depression or seeking some insight on the matter should give this book a read. Thank you to Terrie Williams and all the others who helped create the footpath to healing, mental health care, and mental wellness.
