Now more than ever, I am experiencing first hand the benefits of utilizing grounding exercises. In heightened situations, a pandemic for example, my senses and emotions become over stimulated and the best thing for me to do is turn inwardly. Practicing simple grounding exercises have helped alleviate my anxious feelings and thoughts, as well as encourage focus and productivity . Here are a few of my go to’s, 1. lay on the ground or floor, literally grounding myself. Press your body against the surface, be present, and breath slowly and deeply for 5 mins. 2. Focus on your senses, what calms you: snuggle up with a familiar sweater or blanket, sip warm tea, aromatherapy candles/oils or take a relaxing shower or bath. 3. Practice breathing exercises while listening to instrumental music or quietly if that’s your preference. 4. Find a focal point or object and describe it in great detail. 5. If you’re anything like me, taking a walk in the park is a definite go to. Literally stop and smell the flowers, touch the leaves on the trees, sit by water, or bury your feet in lush grass. These are a few grounding practices that help me, try some grounding and pass it on.
